Local healthcare agency, Independent Life, launches new, free, monthly information sessions for seniors and people living with disabilities.
New Free Services for Seniors and People with a Disability
At Independent Life, we’re focused on continually finding ways to help local seniors and people with a disability to live their best lives. To go further in this endeavor, we’re about to start running free monthly senior services information sessions for the public.
The programs will run on the last Friday of each month, all day, from 10am until 7pm. This means you’ll have plenty of time to pop in for a visit in between other commitments. The Senior services sessions will be run at our office on South Durango Drive in Las Vegas.
The program is designed to help seniors, people living with disabilities, and their carers to learn more about the Senior services on offer these days. We know that many people struggle to live independently when aging, disabilities, or health issues create challenges to overcome. However, once you learn about your rights, make use of support services, and discover how to best deal with paperwork and other administration factors, you’re more likely to achieve your lifestyle goals.
The co-founder of Independent Life, Zlata Zujic, knows this from experience. She was inspired to open the healthcare agency because of the journey she has been on with her own disability. “I have SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy) Type 3,” she says, “an inherited disease that leads to the progressive loss of motor neurons. I walked until I was fourteen years old and have been using a wheelchair ever since.”
Having completed extensive research over the years to find ways to give herself an independent life, and having dealt with many roadblocks and false starts along the way, Zlata now uses her knowledge to help others. “I started Independent Life to assist people with a disability to achieve the same freedoms I’ve been able to enjoy,” Zlata says.
Now, to support the local community further, we’ve decided to open our doors to everyone who needs more information about the senior services they could be utilizing to live a happier, more independent life. Zlata says, “At the sessions, the team and I will share our knowledge about the various types of programs and senior services on offer to seniors and those with a disability. Unfortunately, many people are unaware of the incredible resources they may qualify for. We want to change that.”
During the free sessions, you can pick up tips about a variety of subjects. Zlata says, “Ask questions and discover what you need to know about things like social security and how to apply for it, vehicle and home modifications, your rights as a senior or as a person with a disability, and the numerous free senior services and programs you could be getting assistance from. I can also provide tips about obtaining employment.”
Another big issue for many people with disabilities and seniors is qualifying for insurance. Zlata notes, “Dealing with insurance is one of the most troublesome struggles I’ve had to deal with over the years regarding my disability. I’ve learned the ins andouts of this topic, so enjoy helping people in this area. I can help you to apply for private insurance, Medicaid, or Medicare, for instance. Let me put my knowledge to work for you.”
If you or anyone you know is interested in attending the monthly information sessions, head along to our office at Suite 120 at 4955 South Durango Drive, Las Vegas, on the last Friday of every month. On-street parking is available.
