Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder of the brain, which affects muscle control and movement. Approximately one million Americans have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

As Parkinson’s disease progresses, it can be difficult to keep up with daily demands, including caring for a home as well as yourself. Independent Life Home Care recognizes the specific issues Parkinson’s patients face; our caregivers are trained to be able to address the disease-specific issues you face and work to make you as comfortable as possible. We’ll help you move safely about when you’re dealing with tremors and muscle stiffness, take the burden of household chores off your plate, and provide you with companionship as well as a listening ear when needed.

In-Home Parkinson’s Support Services

Independent Life Home Care is available to assist Parkinson’s disease in many ways. Through an initial consultation with you and you loved ones, our team will assess your needs and put together a care plan to address all areas. Caregiver services are available on a part-time basis, or 24-hour care is available if necessary.

Our Parkinson’s disease support services include:

• Meal planning and preparation to make sure your nutritional needs are met properly
Safety supervision to prevent falls which could result due to the physical side effects of Parkinson’s disease

• Assistance with hygiene, toileting, dressing, and bathing; you’ll receive needed assistance as well as the privacy you deserve

• Transportation to and from your medical appointments and other activities, such as errands and social outings

• Respite care to assist family caregivers in recharging and tending to their personal obligations

• Facilitating your prescribed exercise routine to assist in maintaining your strength, balance, and mobility

Independent Life Home Care takes great care to make sure every client is comfortable with the caregivers they work with. We work hard to match each client with a caregiver who complements their own personality to facilitate conversation and a positive caregiving relationship.

  • When selecting a home care agency to work with your loved one, it is important that your family be comfortable with their caregiver. Independent Life Home Care does an excellent job matching clients to caregivers to ensure a successful working relationship. When we chose them for our mother’s dementia care, we were really impressed with the fit!

  • Dad really struggled to stay active after Mom passed, I think he felt a bit burdened by all he had to do. His caregiver stepped in to assist with household chores and to help him with his needs, and I think that made quite a difference in improving his quality of life. That companionship and mental stimulation seemed to help him carry on, doing the things he loved.

It’s great having someone to help me with the tasks that have become difficult, and I also welcome the conversation and company of my caregiver each week.

  • If you are caring for a loved one at home, don’t forget that you need time to care for yourself, too! Respite care is a must so that you can take care of your needs. I trust Independent Life to care for my son when I have important appointments to attend, and when I need time to recharge.
